Meet Brenton
So, you’ve been doom scrolling for a therapist?
Maybe you’ve read a dozen profiles, questioning if anyone will actually get you. Maybe you’re just hoping to find someone who won’t give you the “have you tried journaling?” speech. Good news—you’ve made it.
Therapy doesn’t have to be awkward, forced, or full of clichés. You don’t need the “perfect” words, a breakthrough moment, or a 10-step plan for healing before you start. You just need a space where you can be real. This is that space.
Now, let’s get to the part where you decide if I’m your kind of therapist.

LIFE CAN BE SHITTY. LIFE CAN BE MESSY.
You’ve found a person who understands you, believes you, and will walk alongside you in the shitty and messy.
Let’s be honest—starting therapy can feel incredibly weird. You’re supposed to open up to a stranger about your deepest struggles and somehow trust the process? Yeah, I get it.
I’m Brenton, a queer therapist, deep thinker, and professional over-feeler. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a dental hygienist—so I’ve had my fair share of awkward small talk and learned how to make people feel at ease in uncomfortable situations (without asking if you’ve been flossing). Now, I help adults who are navigating grief, trauma, identity, and the overwhelming weight of simply existing in this world.
I know what it’s like to feel like too much or wonder if you’re just overreacting. But the truth? You’re not. The things that weigh on you, the parts of yourself you’ve been told to shrink or quiet down—they deserve space. Therapy with me isn’t about toxic positivity or quick-fix advice. It’s a space where you can lay it all down without judgment, awkward silences, or having to explain the basics of your identity before we even get started.
My approach blends somatic (i.e., IFS, EMDR) and talk therapies to help you process the hard stuff, embrace who you are, and build a life that feels more you. We’ll go at your pace—whether that means deep dives into healing or just figuring out how to survive another week. And if we need to scream into the void or crack a dark joke along the way? Totally fine with me.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You just have to show up.
When you’re ready, I’m here.

Through this experience, I would love to provide consultation for any dental providers seeking to improve their patient experience and learn techniques to deeply and intentionally develop interpersonal relationships. -
I am a licensed professional counselor based in Kansas City, MO.
I am the owner of The Mental Hug, a private practice offering counseling, education, and wellness services. -
